Delicious and beautifully photographed vegan recipes from the amazing Vegan Yum Yum blog, winner of the 2008 Veggie Awards hosted by VegNews Magazine.Editor Rating
So I’m a vegan. Alright, maybe more a flexitarian. A flexi-vegan? I’m a patron of culinary anthropology, and on the occasion I’m a guest for dinner or I travel to foreign lands, I will not forgo those lovely steaks in Argentina, or the amazing ceviche my aunts make in Mexico. There’s something to be said for variety in foods, and for what’s truly natural and healthy for the human body. But, that’s another discussion.
Vegan Yum Yum has long been a favorite vegan blog of mine, and I’ve used many of their recipes to good effect, sometimes tweaking them a bit here and there as blogs can be hit-or-miss sometimes. It’s a simple and pretty site with beautiful photographs, the recipes are usually right on the mark, and it’s been awarded the best vegan blog by VegNews Magazine a few years in a row. Sometimes, when I’m in a rut, I can always look to Vegan Yum Yum for apt descriptions, expertly taken photos, and inspiration for my own sugary concoctions.
The app is simple. Almost too simple. All the recipes are available in alphabetical order, with each recipe title linking to the recipe ingredients, directions with accompanying photos to further illustrate, the yield, and a beautiful photo of the finished product. For ease of following the recipe, you may tap the circle by any of the ingredients to check it off as you use – a feature I found quite helpful. In case you want to view the original blog post, there’s a link to it at the bottom of the page.
There are many different amazing recipes. I particularly like her version of petits fours – they’re essentially teeny tiny strawberry shortcakes with marzipan and look absolutely magical and delectable when put on a pretty plate in an ornamental manner. For sheer impressiveness – and just plain bragging rights -, use this recipe to wow your friends with the beauty and palatability of vegan desserts.
I would have preferred easier search options to help with navigation – say, the ability to search for breakfast, lunch or dinner; search for food types like soups or breads; and the ability to search for specific ingredients – but at least you can save favorites, and the recipes all gathered in one easy app somewhat make up for this deficiency.
For anyone who enjoys a good vegan meal, then the Vegan Yum Yum app offers a plethora of delicious vegan treats without having to access the blog, itself. Best of all, the app is free (but then again, so is viewing the blog). Who knew vegan could be so yummy?
